Mr & Mrs Hodge
Mr and Mrs Hodge were recommended to Timber Windows Southern by neighbours who had previously had work carried out by the company.
Keen to enhance their home while preserving its character, the customers opted for new timber windows that would complement the building’s original style. A key aspect of the project was the replication of the existing stained glass, which was carefully reproduced by Tenby & Penny in the new units.
Tenby & Penny are the sole manufacturers of Future Units in Britain and Europe. These specialist units combine triple glazing with traditional leaded lights, offering the benefits of modern glazing—such as improved security, thermal efficiency and noise reduction—while retaining the beauty and impact of authentic stained glass design. The new glass units also feature hand painted centre images with the birds to copy the original design.
The new timber flush casement windows are factory finished in off-white (RAL 9010) both internally and externally, ensuring a timeless and consistent appearance. To complete the look, Mr and Mrs Hodge selected antique pewter hardware, adding a subtle and sophisticated finishing touch.
Using engineered timber keeps the beautiful and tactile qualities of traditional wood but avoids the innate expansion and contraction issues that can occur from using solid wood. Engineered (multi-layered) timber is created by layering wood sections, with the grain of one section being layered in the opposing direction to the grain of its neighbour. Cleverly layering in this manner ensures any movement caused by absorption of moisture is evened out.
This leads to stronger, longer lasting windows and doors. Making sure they stay a perfect fit-just as the day they were installed.
