Mr & Mrs Lombard
Situated in Winchester, Mr. and Mrs. Lombard made the decision to replace their property’s original timber entrance door. Over time, the door had become warped, no longer fitting its frame properly — so much so that daylight could be seen streaming through the gaps. As Mrs. Lombard explained, the door had become really draughty.
Determined to resolve the issue, the couple visited their local showroom to see the available options for a new front door. The customers gained inspiration through the imagery in the showroom and our brochures as they needed a bespoke door that would complement both their style and the architectural heritage of their home — located within a conservation area.
Their final choice was the timeless ‘Bevington’ timber entrance door, finished in elegant ‘Harewood Grey’ (RAL 5008). To complete the look, they selected aged bronze hardware from the distinguished Anvil collection, adding a touch of classic charm. The customers opted for their house number to be etched into the glass of the top light, using the Baskerville Old Face styled font.
This carefully considered update not only enhances the curb appeal of the property but also significantly improves its energy efficiency and comfort — all while remaining sympathetic to the historic character of its surroundings.
Using engineered timber keeps the beautiful and tactile qualities of traditional wood but avoids the innate expansion and contraction issues that can occur from using solid wood. Engineered (multi-layered) timber is created by layering wood sections, with the grain of one section being layered in the opposing direction to the grain of its neighbour. Cleverly layering in this manner ensures any movement caused by absorption of moisture is evened out.
This leads to stronger, longer lasting windows and doors. Making sure they stay a perfect fit-just as the day they were installed.
